Les renseignements suivants concernent les personnes qui sont actuellement agréées aux États-Unis et qui se préparent à faire une demande d’inscription en Ontario à titre de psychologues ou d’associés en psychologie.
En Ontario, nous avons deux certificats d’inscription autorisant l’exercice autonome de la psychologie.
- Pour obtenir un certificat autorisant l’exercice autonome à titre de psychologue, il faut être titulaire d’un doctorat en psychologie.
- Pour obtenir un certificat autorisant l’exercice autonome à titre d’associé en psychologie, il faut être titulaire d’une maîtrise en psychologie.
Les exigences de l’inscription à titre de psychologue ou d’associé en psychologie sont énoncées dans le Règlement sur l’inscription.
Pour être admissible à l’obtention d’un certificat d’inscription autorisant l’exercice autonome provisoire de la profession à titre de psychologue ou d’associé en psychologie en Ontario, le candidat doit être inscrit pour exercer de façon autonome à titre de psychologue ou d’associé en psychologie, doit être membre en règle et doit :
avoir exercé la profession de psychologue en tout temps au cours des deux années précédant immédiatement la date de la demande d’inscription en Ontario, et doit être inscrit dans un territoire de compétence :
a) avec le quel l’Ordre a une entente de réciprocité par écrit à la date de la demande; ou
b) considéré par un sous-comité du comité d’inscription comme ayant des exigences en matière d’inscription équivalentes* à celles de l’Ordre pour ce qui est de l’obtention d’un certificat autorisant l’exercice autonome à titre de psychologue ou d’associé en psychologie; ou
c)être titulaire d’un certificat de qualification professionnelle délivré par l’Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB).
Working in Canada
In order to be issued with a certificate of registration by the College, an applicant must be authorized to work in Canada. Under O.Reg.193/23 of the Psychology and Applied Behaviour Analysis Act, an applicant must be either a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or authorized to practice in the profession under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada). Applicants who are not citizens or permanent residents of Canada but who hold a valid work permit may also meet this requirement.

This requirement applies to all classes of registration, and also applies to applicants whose sole intention is to provide telehealth services.

Applying as a Psychologist
In order to qualify for a Certificate of Registration Authorizing Interim Autonomous Practice as a Psychologist in Ontario, the applicant must be:
Fully registered or licensed for autonomous/independent practice as a Psychologist, with no restrictions on their registration/license, be in good standing, and must have:
Practised the profession of psychology at any time during the 2 years immediately before the date of their application for registration in Ontario, and their registration is in a jurisdiction:
a. with which the College has entered into a written reciprocity agreement as of the date of the application; or
b. that is considered by a panel of the Registration Committee to have registration requirements considered to be equivalent* to those of the College for a Certificate of Registration Authorizing Autonomous Practice as a Psychologist; or
c. holds a current Certificate of Professional Qualification (CPQ) awarded by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB).
*The Registration Committee considers registration requirements to be equivalent when an applicant is licensed as a psychologist by a U.S. state psychology licensing board. To find acceptable U.S. psychology licensing boards, applicants can use the search feature available at the following link: https://www.asppb.net/page/BdContactNewPG. Licensure must be on the basis of a completed doctoral degree in psychology, a period of post-doctoral supervised practice, and successful completion of the EPPP (Part 1) examination with a passing score of at least 70% or 500.
Applying as a Psychological Associate
In order to qualify for a Certificate of Registration Authorizing Interim Autonomous Practice as a Psychological Associate in Ontario, the applicant must be:
Fully registered or licensed for autonomous/independent practice as a Psychological Associate, with no restrictions on their registration/license, be in good standing, and must have:
Practised the profession of psychology at any time during the 2 years immediately before the date of the application for registration in Ontario, and their registration/licensure is in a jurisdiction:
a. with which the College has entered into a written reciprocity agreement as of the date of the application; or
